2002 Firefighter of the Year

Firefighter Jessica Gibson was recently recognized as 2002 Firefighter of the Year at the Templeton Firefighters’ Annual Recognition and Appreciation Dinner.  The award is given to the firefighter whose performance, dedication and concern for the department throughout the year stood above the rest.  The Firefighter of the Year is selected by their peers and confirmed by the Chief Officers.

Jessica became a member of the Department in 2000, having completed the required training and attending fire department drills for over a year.  In 2001 Jessica successfully completed the Firefighter I Academy at Allan Hancock College finishing higher in her class than any female had in 10 years.  Jessica is supported in her volunteer efforts by her family members 4 of whom are also members of the Templeton Fire Department.

“Jessica combines a great personality, a great attitude, and a tremendous dedication to the fire department,” said Fire Chief Greg O’Sullivan.  “Her peers overwhelmingly supported Jessica for the annual award.”

Other awards presented at the dinner included:  Twenty-year service plaque to Captain Mike Erb and a Ten-year service bar to Firefighter Tom Stead.  One-year service plaques were presented to Troy Lovell, Donny Pemberton, and Danny Vollberg.  Firefighter with most calls went to Steve Barckley, with the firefighter attending most drills being presented to Frank Sprague and Tom Peterson.
