Friends of Templeton Group

Dear Templeton resident:

For more than 120 years, the Templeton Fire and Emergency Services has been a proud and important part of our community. Our staff of two full-time captains, a halftime fire chief and up to 30 paid call firefighters (PCFs) is honored to provide highly trained and skilled fire, medical, rescue and public service response 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. As the Templeton Community Services District grows both in residential and commercial development, the Department is seeing an increase in emergency and non-emergency calls for service which places further demands on our community’s first responders.

The District is pursuing permanent and alternate funding sources to help offset the ongoing costs associated with emergency services. A permanent solution could be a voter or property owner-approved benefit assessment or a parcel tax to provide a reliable and sustainable funding mechanism. One alternative may be the creation of a Community Facility District for new residential and commercial development to ensure they pay their fair share of the increase demand for emergency services. Another option we are considering is negotiating an increase in property tax allocation from San Luis Obispo County. Even with these potential funding sources, the Templeton Fire and Emergency Services will still need a dedicated source of funding to provide operational stability.

To accomplish this, we need your support. The Department is looking for local individuals, business owners and organizations that understand and value the services Fire and Emergency Services personnel provide to you, our neighbors, family and friends. We all desire to keep our neighborhoods and residents safe, healthy and protected. Your influence in and commitment to Templeton can help us do just that. We want to invite you to join our new Friends of the Templeton Fire Department ambassadors group. The Friends of the Templeton Fire Department will be an advocacy group which will help spread the message about the Department’s challenges, opportunities, services and goals. If you are interested in being a part of this grassroots effort to support the Templeton Department of Fire And Emergency Services, please email Fire Chief Bill White at chief@templetoncsd.org or call (805) 434-4911.

If you would like to help out financially, the Fire Department is looking for voluntary, tax deductible donations to help support ongoing staffing and operational needs. Attached is a donation form with a short survey. Even if you are not able to donate to the fire and emergency services today, we are asking our citizens to fill out the survey and submit it to the District with their utility bill. Any donation would be greatly appreciated and we thank you very much for your time and support.

Sincerely,
Bill White Fire Chief
