Background: Richard Burch was born in Tampa, Florida but lived in several Southern states before moving to California at age 11, where he lived in the foothills of the San Fernando Valley in an area called Sunland-Tujunga. He received both his Bachelor and Master degrees from Pepperdine University in Malibu. For his junior and senior years as an undergraduate student, Richard study in Heidelberg, Germany through one of Pepperdine’s international programs. While in Heidelberg, Richard was also the minister of the Gemiende Christi (Church of Christ). Before going into fulltime ministry, Richard worked as a junior high teacher at the San Fernando Valley Christian School where he taught Bible, photography, choral music and also coached football and basketball. From there, he worked as one of the directors of United Cerebral Palsy in Los Angeles county. Following his work at UCP, Richard held different positions at Pepperdine University. In 1997 he went into fulltime ministry with a church in Temple City, CA and moved to the Central Coast in 2006, working with a congregation in Lompoc. In 2010, he began working with the Northside Church of Christ in Atascadero.

Over the years, Richard has participated in a variety of organizations. While in Temple City he served as president of the clergy program with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department and as a counselor with the Pregnancy Help Center. Since his move to Lompoc, he served for three years on the Board of Directors with the Care Net Pregnancy Support Center. Other interests of Richard include skydiving, scuba diving, sailing, riding his motorcycle and singing in a Barbershop chorus and quartet. Richard and his wife Janice met in graduate school and have five children.
