1979-1997 Fire Chief

Name: Lloyd Holloway

Rank: Fire Chief

Years Of Service: 1979-1997

Service Award(s):

Chief Holloway‘s involvement with the Templeton Fire Depart-ment started long before he began volunteering as a fire-fighter. His grandfather, Charlie Holloway, was a member of the fire department in the 1950‘s. As a child, he often at-tended department meetings with his grandfather. Chief Hol-loway began his 32 years of volunteering with the Templeton Fire Department in 1966. Chief Holloway was recruited by and trained one-on-one with his friend Benny Atkins.

He was the Assistant Fire Chief at the time of the Feed and Grain fire in 1979, which is his most vivid memory. He worked his regular job at the Ford Garage during the day and slept on the sidewalk next to the hardware store in a sleeping bag during the night as a fire watchman.

During his time as Fire Chief, he increased firefighting and medical training for the department personnel. Chief Holloway established a Fire Capital Improvement Program assess-ing new construction, which funded the construction of the new fire station and the purchase of a new fire apparatus. He retired as Fire Chief in 1997. “The fire department has been my life. I put my heart and soul into it and brought it a long way. I leave knowing it‘s in good hands,” said Holloway.
