Templeton Community Services District Encourages Participation in Survey

In the next couple of weeks Templeton property owners and registered voters may receive calls or e-mails from Probolsky Research, a Consultant, hired by the Templeton Community Services District (TCSD) to determine whether there is support to pursue a special benefit tax to fund Templeton Fire and Emergency Services.  Due to ongoing residential and commercial development there is an increased demand for emergency and non-emergency calls for service.  The District does not have the necessary funding to protect the community 24-hours a day, 7 days a week.

The District’s current property tax allocation was established in 1976 at 8.4%. So, of all the property taxes paid to the County by District home owners, only 8.4 cents of every dollar comes back to the District. The Fire and Emergency Services only source of funding comes from property taxes. The District generates more than $1.6 million dollars in sales tax revenue, but those funds go directly to San Luis Obispo County.

The estimated additional funding needed to staff Templeton Fire and Emergency Services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week is $15.00 per household per month.  This is equivalent to ordering a two-topping pizza or four mocha grandes at a popular coffee chain.

The TCSD Board of Directors and Staff are asking those in our community who are selected to participate in the survey to please take the time to give the survey caller accurate information so TCSD may critically assess moving forward with a ballot measure.  For more information, please call the Templeton Community Services District Office at (805) 434-4900.
