Cuesta Fire

In the afternoon of August 17, 2015 Templeton Fire Department responded to an immediate need request by Cal Fire for the Cuesta Fire Incident. Templeton Fire as well as other local Government agencies responded quickly to the Santa Margarita as the fire was threatening the Santa margarita residence east of the railroad tracks. Templeton fire was placed in strike team 1473A and assigned to do back burning operations during Monday night and into early Tuesday morning. Tuesday the strike team was released from the line and placed on 24 hour RNR to rest and resupply the engine for more fire line operations starting Wednesday. The morning of Wednesday the 19th Templeton Fire and the rest of the strike team were placed in Santa Margarita staging. Later that day the weather conditions changed, with a heavy wind coming out of the south west. Division H requested for assistance due to extreme fire behavior. ST 1473A was assigned to help with supporting a hose lay mid-slope on division H. Shortly after the strike team starting assisting with the hose lay, spotters spotted multiple spot fires over the hose lay and past containment lines. Division H hose lay was then abandoned and 1473A pulled back through the safety of dozer lines. 1473A assisted Cal Fire with mopping up spot fires that had jumped containment lines the rest of the night. After the progression of the fire was stopped Templeton Fire was released at 11:00 on Friday morning the 21st.
