Returning Home

On July 2nd, an old friend returned home to Templeton. The 1934 Ford fire engine, that served the Templeton Fire Protection District from 1941 to 1964, was returned to the community it had protected.

In 1934 the Carpinteria Unified High School Fire District (CUHS FIRE DIST) purchased a brand new red 1934 flathead Ford V-8 fire engine. It served the Carpinteria area until it was traded to the Mack International Truck Company in 1941. At that time Templeton was looking to add to its fleet and opted to purchase the engine from Mack for $700.00. In 1965, the engine was sold at auction to John Loomis of Arroyo Grande for $500.00. The engine spent the last 48 years of its life at the Tar Spring Ranch in the Huasna Township area of rural Arroyo Grande. It was used as a prop for a western town at the ranch and occasionally traveling to town to participate in local parades. Thanks to a generous donation from Linde Loomis, the Templeton Firefighters Association was able to acquire the engine and will begin the restoration process.
